📄️ Introduction to 3D Printing
3D printing (additive manufacturing) produces physical parts by depositing or solidifying material layer by layer from a digital 3D model. Unlike subtractive methods (milling, turning) that remove material from stock, additive workflows build only what is needed, enabling rapid iteration, complex internal geometries, and low-volume manufacturing without dedicated tooling. In consumer and prosumer contexts, three printer families dominate: FDM/FFF, SLA, and SLS. They differ mainly in how layers are created and what that implies for cost, detail, throughput, and maintenance.
